Sathyamano?: A K Antony bought wife’s paintings for Rs. 28 crore of government’s money

A forward message in Whatsapp claims that “Defence Minister A K Anthony forced Airport Authority of India(AAI) to pay Rs. 28 crores for 4 paintings by his wife Elizabeth Antony”.

We have also found other similar posts in other media with different versions of the same story, dating back to 2012.

What’s the Truth?

The allegation story is false. The truth is that the Airport Authority of India(AAI) bought 2 of her paintings for Rs. 2.5 lakhs. The purchase happened in 2012. Details below.

We have a direct Facebook post from Mrs. Elizabeth Antony where she has given a reply she got from the AAI after her associate filed an RTI(Right to Information) on the matter. 2 paintings were bought at a price of Rs.1.25 lakh each. The post also gives the information of the transaction details.
