It's not necessary to believe in God- Pope Francis?

The above image (and similar ones) has been circulating since 2014 claiming to be quoted by Pope Francis. This is surely a progressive message and quite befitting to his personality and growing acceptance among masses. But a Pope saying it’s not necessary to go to church raised some doubts and we searched for the source.

Well, it’s FAKE. Pope Francis has never quoted these phrases.

We are not sure about the origins of this. We believe it might be a stretched interpretation of his words below, from 2013.

“You ask me if the God of the Christians forgives those who don’t believe and who don’t seek the faith. I start by saying – and this is the fundamental thing – that God’s mercy has no limits if you go to him with a sincere and contrite heart. The issue for those who do not believe in God is to obey their conscience.

“Sin, even for those who have no faith, exists when people disobey their conscience.”

The message could roughly mean that “You don’t need to believe in God, to be a good person. Disobeying one’s conscience would be the real sin”
